How to write precis?
*What is precis?*
Precis is a word that has its origin in French language. The word precis means a summary or an extract of any text or speech.
*Importance of precis writing*
Precis writing is an important part of English language as people need to learn precis writing if they want to master the skills of the English language. Precis writing seems to be an easy job but it actually requires a tiring practice to become a good precis writer. Usually, all precis paragraphs are academic with topics related to Philosophy, Science , Spirituality etc.
*Characteristics of a Good Precis*
A precis can be categorized as a good precis if it has the following properties
A good precis should be concise.
Coherence in the precis is another essential character of a good precis.
A good precis should be correct and complete. All the events should follow the same sequence in the precis as it is given in the original paragraph.
Originality and objectivity are also the important properties of a good precis. A good precis should be objective and produced originally from the said text.
*How to write Precis*
Read the given text keenly.
After reading, develope an understanding towards that text.Dont give your opinion in precis and try to stick to the context of the given paragraph.
Write one sentence for each set of three sentences.
Make them cohesive.
Make your text coherent and focus on the ideas that are written by you as they should be coherent with the original text.
Remove all grammatical errors from the written text.
Read the first draft again and try to rectify it.
Read the second draft and then after further improvisation submit the final draft for assessment or whatever reason you are writing for.
